Nepal Elections: Balen Shah Leading in Early Results, Final Outcome Awaited
Nepal is witnessing an important political development as Balen Shah, the 35-year-old mayor of Kathmandu, is currently leading in the early vote count in the ongoing national elections. The results are still being counted, but initial trends suggest a strong performance by Shah and his supporters.
Balen Shah, who gained national attention after winning the Kathmandu mayoral election as an independent candidate, has become a symbol of political change for many young voters in Nepal. His campaign focused on governance reforms, transparency, anti-corruption efforts, and improving urban development.
According to early reports, former Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli is trailing behind in the vote count. However, election officials have stated that the counting process is still underway and final results will only be confirmed after the completion of the official tally.
Political observers say the election reflects a growing demand among Nepali citizens, particularly the youth, for new leadership and a shift away from traditional political parties that have dominated the country’s politics for decades.
If the current trend continues and his alliance secures enough parliamentary seats, Balen Shah could emerge as a key figure in forming Nepal’s next government. However, the decision on who will become Prime Minister will be finalized only after the full election results and government formation process are completed.
Authorities in Nepal have urged the public to wait for the official declaration of results as the vote counting continues across the country.
