Trust Deficit in Ladakh: Sonam Wangchuk says no date fixed for next round of talks with Centre

Leh, Ladakh | April 13, 2026
Ladakh-based environmentalist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk has expressed concern over a growing “trust deficit” between the people of Ladakh and the central government, stating that no date has yet been announced for the next round of discussions.

Speaking on the ongoing issues related to Ladakh’s demands, Wangchuk highlighted that despite earlier dialogues, there has been a lack of clarity and progress from the government’s side. He emphasized that the people of Ladakh are waiting for concrete steps and meaningful engagement rather than delays.

The talks between Ladakhi representatives and the Centre were expected to address key concerns, including constitutional safeguards, protection of land and jobs, and greater autonomy. However, with no official schedule for the next meeting, uncertainty continues to grow among locals.

Wangchuk urged the government to act promptly and rebuild trust through transparent communication and timely action. He also called upon the people to remain united and continue peaceful efforts to ensure that Ladakh’s voice is heard at the national level.

Further updates are awaited as both sides look toward resuming dialogue.
