Assassination Attempt on Farooq Abdullah in Jammu, Gunman Arrested

An assassination attempt was made on veteran Jammu and Kashmir leader Farooq Abdullah during a wedding function in Jammu on Wednesday evening. The senior leader narrowly escaped unharmed after a gunman opened fire at close range.
According to reports, the incident took place at a marriage ceremony in the Greater Kailash area of Jammu, where Abdullah was attending the event along with several political leaders and guests. During the function, a man allegedly approached from behind and fired a shot in what authorities described as an assassination attempt.
Security personnel quickly intervened and overpowered the attacker, preventing further harm. Fortunately, Farooq Abdullah escaped without injuries and was safely escorted away from the venue.
Police have identified the accused as Kamal Singh Jamwal, a 63-year-old resident of Jammu. He was immediately arrested and taken into custody for interrogation. Investigators are currently probing his background and motive behind the attack.
Initial reports suggest that the suspect claimed he had been planning to target the leader for many years, though authorities are verifying the statement as part of the ongoing investigation.
Reacting to the incident, Farooq Abdullah said he was fortunate to have survived the attack and thanked security personnel for their quick action. The incident has raised concerns over the security of political leaders in the region.
Political leaders from various parties have strongly condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
